A year-long programme for NZ teachers — 2027

Less time on the paperwork. More time for your ākonga.

Every kaiako in Aotearoa is being asked to do more in the same hours. Used well, AI gives some of that time back — for planning, differentiating, feedback and whānau. This is the year you learn to use it confidently, safely and for every learner in your class.

Kia ora,

The AI Powered Educator Programme is led by Dr Craig Hansen, New Zealand's leading AI for Education trainer. It's built for classroom teachers across the curriculum — from new entrants to senior secondary — and for wherever you're starting from. Novice or expert, everyone has a lot to gain.

Dr Craig Hansen, Founder and Director of Summit Institute

Maybe you've never opened an AI tool. Maybe you use one every day — making storybooks, levelling texts, drafting newsletters, translating messages for whānau. Either way, you'll spend 2027 alongside teachers from around the motu, trying things in your own classroom and sharing what works.

What teachers tell us

After training hundreds of educators at our AI breakfasts, teacher-only days and cluster meetings, we always ask how much time the AI strategies and tools we've shared are saving them. When classroom teachers put a number on it, the typical answer is 5 hours a week — around 25 days across a 40-week school year, much of it time that used to go on planning, resources and admin.

1

Learn live, together — online and in person

A rhythm of learning that fits around your teaching week, not on top of it.

  • Live sessions with Dr Craig Hansen and team on a Wednesday evening, 7:00–8:00pm, every third week of Terms 1–3 — so they never cut into your teaching day
  • Every session recorded, so you can catch up whenever suits you
  • One in-person AI Breakfast in your region in Term 2 — Whangārei, Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington, Blenheim, Christchurch or Dunedin
  • A community of educators across the curriculum, sharing what's working in their classrooms
  • Practical ideas and prompts you can use in class the next morning
Breakfast times: The regional AI Breakfasts will run from 9am to 12pm, giving you time to travel to the event in your region. Depending on venues, content and the number of people enrolled, this may change to an 8:30am to 2:30pm time slot. We will notify you well in advance.

An NZQA-accredited micro-credential, built around your classroom

Choose the pathway that matches where you're at. You'll work on real planning, resources and tasks from your own teaching, not theory for its own sake.

Tap a pathway to preview your pick and see where to find the full course details. You confirm it when you enrol.

3

Ten themes, built around a teacher's real week

We've drawn together hundreds of ways teachers are using AI and grouped them into ten themes. Each live session takes one theme and turns it into something you can use straight away. Tap a theme to see what you'll learn.

Equity runs through all ten. Every theme asks the same question: how does this help every learner in your class — your ESOL learners, your neurodiverse learners, your tamariki who need more stretch — and how do you keep your professional judgement at the centre?

Who the programme is for

One programme, one community, whatever you teach.

Just getting started? We start with the foundations — how to prompt well, what to keep private, and how to check what AI gives you.

Already using AI every day? Go further with custom assistants, reusable workflows and the Advanced Applications pathway.

Any learning area, any year level. English, maths, science, the arts, languages, technology and more — primary, intermediate, secondary and kura.

What classroom teachers are telling us

Classroom teachers at our AI Breakfasts tell us AI is saving them around 5 hours a week — about 25 days a year.

Learning intentions, success criteria (I loved that) and prompting were my highlights. I'm going to save 10 hours a week because of what I learned today.

Classroom TeacherMatakana

At least a whole week of my school break used to go on term planning. AI has given me my life back.

Classroom TeacherKatikati

I have learnt so much. My knowledge was limited, but now I feel more confident in what I am doing. I loved how TeachAid works for the classroom, and I think these simple tools will really lighten our load.

Classroom TeacherTaumarunui

It was an awesome session! Taking these ideas back to my colleagues is going to make planning so much simpler. AI is a game-changer for planning, differentiation and bridging the gap for diverse learners. It's given me whole weekends back!

Classroom TeacherHawke's Bay

My stand-out takeaways were using Gemini to create storybooks and learning stories for students, and the Tell-It framework: tell it who it is, what you want, and how you like it.

Classroom TeacherNorthcote, Auckland

I had an awesome morning and learnt a lot. I'm excited to go back to my school and share this knowledge. Thank you for carefully explaining everything and answering questions so clearly.
